Derek Evans

President and Chief Executive Officer, and Director

Derek was appointed as the President and Chief Executive Officer, and a Director in August 2018. He is a veteran oil and gas industry executive with over 40 years of experience. From May 2009 to March 2018, he served as the President, CEO and Director of Pengrowth Energy, where he led the Company through a major transformation, streamlining its asset base from 35 properties to two growth assets, with over $9 billion of development opportunities. Prior to joining Pengrowth, Derek was the President, CEO and Director of Focus Energy Trust, a dividend paying royalty trust company. During his tenure at Focus, Derek was successful in increasing the market valuation approximately five times, while distributing more than $400 million to unitholders. Mr. Evans holds a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering from Queen’s University and is a registered professional engineer in Alberta.

Ryan Kubik

Chief Financial Officer

Ryan is the Chief Financial Officer at MEG Energy, with more than 30 years' experience in the oil and gas industry in the areas of corporate finance, strategy and accounting. From 2017 to 2022, Ryan served as Chief Financial Officer & Senior Vice President of Heritage Royalty, where he was responsible for all financial aspects as well as contributions to the organization’s corporate strategy. Prior to Heritage Royalty, Ryan was President and Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Oil Sands Limited from 2014 to 2016 and Chief Financial Officer from 2007 to 2013. He has also served as Chair of Syncrude Canada's Board of Directors and Chair of the Audit and Business Controls Subcommittee. Ryan is a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Financial Analyst, and holds an Institute of Corporate Directors ICD.D designation and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary.

Darlene Gates

Chief Operating Officer

Darlene is the Chief Operating Officer at MEG Energy. Prior to joining MEG in 2021, she served as the President of ExxonMobil Alaska. Darlene brings over 26 years of experience in the oil and gas sector, including leadership roles with Imperial Oil in Cold Lake, Alberta. As COO, Darlene is responsible for all aspects of the production operations of MEG's oil and gas business with the Company's operational areas and direct support technical functions reporting to her. Darlene holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Victoria and is a registered professional engineer in Alberta. She is also an Honorary Colonel in the Royal Canadian Airforce.

Dave Granger

Senior Vice President, Human Resources

Dave leads a team of passionate, innovative and talented Human Resources and Communications Professionals and is accountable for human resources strategy, talent acquisition, leadership and employee development, diversity, equity and inclusion, compensation and benefits, HR operations and internal communications. He brings over 30 years of human resources experience in the manufacturing, supply chain, beverage and oil and gas sectors. Prior to joining MEG in 2019, Dave was the Vice President, Human Resources with Pengrowth Energy. Dave is a Chartered Professional in Human Resources with CPHR Canada and holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of British Columbia. He also sits on the Board of Directors for carya, one of Calgary’s longest standing social impact agencies.

Lyle Yuzdepski

Senior Vice President, Legal, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary

Lyle is the Senior Vice President, Legal & General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at MEG Energy. Prior to joining MEG in January 2020, Lyle was General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of the Mancal Group where he handled major commercial transactions in a broad range of industries and advised boards of directors and trustees in a variety of different contexts within the Mancal Group. Previous experience also includes his tenure with McCarthy Tétrault LLP as Partner. Lyle practiced general corporate and commercial law and securities law specializing in complex major transactions, including project development, public and private financings, acquisitions and divestitures, and private equity. Lyle graduated from the University of Saskatchewan College of Law in 1993 as the Gold Medalist. He is a member of the Bar Association of Saskatchewan and the Bar Association of Alberta and is a Certified Family Enterprise Advisor (FEA).

Incident notification – April 30, 2016 – Meg Energy announces that today, at approximately 08:15 hrs, during work carried out on a natural gas well near the village of Edmonton in Alberta.
