Fatal incident at MEG Energy site

CALGARY, ALBERTA (March 6, 2012) – MEG Energy Corp. regretfully reports that an employee passed away today as a result an incident at MEG’s Christina Lake oil sands project.

MEG’s emergency response staff responded shortly after 8:00 a.m. to an injury incident at a well pad connected to the project. The injured individual received emergency treatment at the incident site, but later succumbed to his injuries.

“Our thoughts are with the worker’s family, friends and co-workers at this sad and difficult time,” said Bill McCaffrey, President and Chief Executive Officer.

MEG has notified appropriate authorities and will work with them to complete a full investigation into the cause of the incident. Next of kin has been notified, but the name of the deceased is not being released at this time.

No other individuals were injured. The site has been secured and activity suspended at the well pad. Counseling is being offered to workers and contractors at the project area. No other information is being released at this time.
