MEG employees donate over $15,000 to help Calgary families celebrate Christmas

Having to buy presents or a Christmas meal is very stressful for some families, when their day-to-day decisions include whether to buy food for their children or pay the electrical bill.

MEG Energy employees helped ease that holiday burden in 2011 for 12 Calgary families, through the CUPS Adopt-A-Family program. Every family received gifts, a gift card for groceries and donated household items.

“Employees mobilized quickly to help our adopted families,” said Tara McCool, Director of Community Investment & Corporate Communications at MEG. “CUPS encouraged us to reach out to the families, get to know them and find out their needs – it was a special experience for everyone.”

After buying and wrapping gifts, employees delivered them to their adopted families, which had a big impact.

Terri, a single mother of two, was extremely grateful for the support and was happy to thank employees in person. “The kindness and generosity made my first Christmas with my kids very special – there are no words to express my gratitude.”  Terri’s 10-year old daughter wrote, “Thank you for helping my mom make a good Christmas for us!”

One MEG employee described her experience with the Adopt-A-Family initiative as an emotional one.  “What a great experience – I know this will stay with me for a very long time.”
