MEG Energy gives the gift of reading with Book Bags for Kids

Book Bags for Kids is an initiative that puts books in the hands of children who may have limited reading materials in their homes. The program was established thirteen years ago on the belief that learning begins in the home and the community. By giving children the gift of literacy, Book Bags for Kids inspires them to become lifelong readers and discover the joys and value of reading.

MEG’s donations help to fund the purchase of fiction and non-fiction books that have been selected and approved through literacy experts. MEG employees are encouraged to take part in the program’s annual events and invest time in the educational development of today’s youth.

This year, MEG volunteers participated in two literacy sharing afternoons - one at Vista Heights School in January and the second at Falconridge Elementary School in February. Fifteen employees packed colorful bags with books, stuffed animal reading buddies from the Calgary Hitmen Teddy Bear Toss, clothing packs containing mitts and hats from Centre Street Church, and other items to make the book bags extra special. After distributing the book bags, employees enjoyed reading aloud to students while watching their enthusiasm grow with the turn of every page.

MEG is proud to support the Calgary Board of Education in their endeavor to lead children down a path of lifelong learning and reading.
